As part of our commitment to educate and engage with operators, the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) has produced an educational video outlining what vessel operators can expect during a typical vessel inspection.

AFMA fisheries officers conduct targeted inspections of Commonwealth operator vessels in an effort to ensure all rules and regulations are being followed and to provide operators with an opportunity to get their questions answered.

The video, narrated by ‘Observer Dave’, steps through the process of an inspection and includes:

  • what you can expect when a fisheries officer approaches your vessel
  • the paper work, gear and areas fisheries officers will need to have access to
  • how vessel operators can assist fisheries officers to ensure a smooth inspection
  • reminding operators to ask the fisheries officers questions if any part of the process is unclear.

We encourage all operators to watch AFMA’s vessel inspection video and familiarise yourself with what to expect during an inspection. Understanding the vessel inspection process will help minimise the disruption to your operations, you can view the video below or on AFMA’s YouTube channel.
