Whether it’s tigers and bananas from the Northern Prawn Fishery, fillets of flathead from the Commonwealth trawl fishery or succulent scallops from Bass Strait, Australian seafood will get your tastebuds running and heading back for more! Better still, today is Sustainable Seafood Day, so treat your tastebuds to a smorgasbord of Australian seafood in celebration.
Australian seafood makes a fresh and tasty meal and has numerous health benefits, including high levels of omega 3 and iron–so it is the perfect protein for any diet.

The CEO of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA), Dr James Findlay, is encouraging all Australians to support our local seafood industry and celebrate Sustainable Seafood Day by tucking into a meal of Australian seafood either today or any other day.
“Many of our Commonwealth species have had great seasons so there is a variety of choice to sink your teeth into,” Dr Findlay said.
“Yellowfin tuna has had decade high catches, last season our tiger prawns had record 20 year highs, and we are seeing excellent catches of flake and flathead at the moment.
“Importantly, when you are buying seafood from a Commonwealth fishery, you can have confidence that it is strictly managed, sustainable and will be around for current and future generations to enjoy.”
To help you select the type of seafood delicacy you fancy this Sustainable Seafood Day, visit AFMA’s website for a range of recipes and information about which species are sustainable.
