The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) is seeking comment on the draft Redfish Stock Rebuilding Strategy 2016 (the draft Strategy).

The draft Strategy 2016 outlines measures to rebuild redfish stocks in the Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery (SESSF).

The 2014 stock assessment estimated the biomass of redfish (Centroberyx affinis) to be at 11 percent of its unfished levels and the draft Strategy 2016 has been developed to rebuild the species to sustainable levels. The first stage in the process is to rebuild redfish to 20 percent of its unfished biomass which is the limit reference point that has been adopted for the species).

The primary objective of the draft Strategy 2016 is to rebuild all redfish stocks to ecologically sustainable levels and manage them in a manner consistent with the Commonwealth Fisheries Harvest Strategy Policy 2007.

AFMA invites interested stakeholders to have their say about the draft Strategy 2016.

Comments are sought by 5pm 10 May 2016 and can be emailed to Ross.Bromley@afma.gov.au.
