As you head to the beach or gather round the barbie this Australia Day to celebrate with family and friends, why not add fresh, local, healthy and delicious seafood to your menu.
AFMA’s acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nick Rayns, encouraged Australians to support our local seafood industry this Australia Day.
“Our Commonwealth managed fisheries are in great shape, so there has never been a better time to tuck into a feast of seafood,” Dr Rayns said.
“And with so many options like beer-battered flake and chips, marinated skewered prawns, or grilled flathead with salad, you can find a meal that fits in with whatever you are doing this Australia Day.
“The Commonwealth fishing industry and AFMA are making sure that current and future generations of Australians will continue to have a healthy supply of local seafood.
“Moreover, with strong compliance, sustainable catch limits and close monitoring, you can be assured that seafood from a Commonwealth managed fishery is good for you and the marine environment.
“Our commercial fishing industry is a vital contributor to many regional economies across our nation and we should celebrate that.
“So when you’re at home having a hit of backyard cricket, or down at the local park or beach having a picnic, celebrate the Australian seafood industry by adding local seafood to your menu this Australia Day.”
