“Cod” by Mark Kurlansky

This is not a new book but it is a good one. The book takes us through six centuries of Cod recipes, three Cod wars, the creation of exclusive economic zones for fishing, several attempts at conserving Cod, and predictions for a not too rosy future.

Being in part a historical cook-book, biological lesson and warning about human behaviour, it weaves together a tragic tale of treating our gifts of nature badly.

A highlight is “How to Cook the Last Large Cod”.

Stay tuned for future book reviews.
