The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) congratulates two of our Commonwealth fisheries ‘family’, the Northern Prawn Fishery Industry (NPFI) Ltd and Claire Webber from the Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association (ASBTIA) on being recognised as national champions at the National Seafood Industry Awards held last month.

The best of the best from our seafood industry from across Australia gathered in to Perth to celebrate our nation’s seafood industry. The NPFI together with Expert Group won the category of Research Development and Extension Award with their research project aimed at developing new and innovative refrigeration systems for the NPF. The NPFI was also a finalist in the People Development Award. Claire Webber was honoured as the Young Achiever of the Year in Australian’s Seafood Industry.  Both were category winners at their respective state awards.

In congratulating NPFI and Ms Webber AFMA’s CEO Dr James Findlay said that the awards helped to showcase Australia’s seafood industry.

“Australians can be proud of their seafood industry which for more than 100 years has been supplying fresh, tasty fish,” Dr Findlay said.

“The National Seafood Industry Awards celebrate the many individuals, businesses and organisations that contribute to our industry and make it internationally renowned for supplying among the most sustainable seafood in the world. AFMA also extends its congratulations to all those who entered the seafood awards and the many individuals, groups and companies that received recognition.”
