The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) is seeking applications for member positions on the Commonwealth Fisheries Marine Mammal Working Group. The Commonwealth Fisheries Marine Mammal Working Group is being established to provide advice sought by AFMA on marine mammal management arrangements for Commonwealth managed fisheries. In particular, members are sought to support the:

  1. identification and assessment of marine mammal bycatch issues
  2. development and review of marine mammal management strategies to apply to relevant AFMA managed fisheries
  3. development of fishery and/or vessel specific management arrangements.

This advice will assist AFMA in its role to regulate commercial fishing of Commonwealth fisheries.

We are seeking marine mammal scientists as well as members from the commercial fishing industry, recreational fishing sector and conservation sector. Candidates with qualifications and/or experience of relevance to fisheries or natural resource management would be highly desirable. Members are sought for the period up to 30 June 2018.
