Easter is one of the busiest times for seafood retailers and with great catches across Commonwealth fisheries, there has never been a better time to ‘eggs-plore’ the variety that Australian seafood has to offer.
With the Easter weekend just days away, the Australian Fisheries Management Authority’s (AFMA) CEO, Dr James Findlay is encouraging us all to choose fresh, local seafood this weekend, and for that matter, every weekend!
“Many of our Commonwealth fisheries have had great catches this season and consumers are spoilt for choice this Easter,” Dr Findlay said.
“Gummy shark (also known as flake), flathead, prawns, tuna and scallops are just some of the species that have
had decade high catches.
“Whether it is something warm and cosy like a French bouillabaisse, seafood alfresco on the BBQ in our warmer states, or flake at the local fish ‘n’ chip shop, there are so many seafood options this Easter.
“Not only that, but with so much chocolate around, seafood is an ‘egg-cellent’, healthy food choice over Easter that can easily be turned into a scrumptious meal that your tastebuds will love.
“And when it comes to sustainability, AFMA bases its catch and quota limits on the best available science, so by purchasing locally caught Australian seafood from Commonwealth fisheries you can be assured that it is from a well managed fishery.”
