The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) welcomes new Commissioner Renata Brooks to the independent AFMA Commission. Ms Brooks has been appointed until 30 June 2019.

In welcoming Ms Brooks, AFMA’s Chairman, Mr Norman Moore AM, acknowledged her extensive experience in natural resource management, including as Deputy Director General Land and Natural Resources in the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries.

“I am sure all Commissioners are looking forward to working with Ms Brooks as we continue to ensure sustainable fisheries for current and future generations,” Mr Moore said.

“With her diverse experience in the areas of science and research, agriculture, fisheries, biosecurity, compliance and occupational safety Ms Brooks is a valuable addition to the AFMA Commission.

“I would also like to thank and recognise the contribution of outgoing Commissioner, Mr David Hall.

“Having previously worked in multiple jurisdictions before his appointment as a Commissioner, Mr Hall provided valuable insight and knowledge particularly in research and dealing with the strategic issues facing AFMA.”

Also announced today was the reappointment until 30 June 2019 of three of the current Commissioners, Mr Richard Stevens OAM, Mr Ian Cartwright, and Professor Keith Sainsbury.

“They join me and current Commissioners, Ms Catherine Cooper, and AFMA’s CEO Dr James Findlay on the seven person independent Commission.

“The wealth of expertise, experience and knowledge amongst our Commissioners is a great asset to Commonwealth fisheries management and I welcome the reappointment of Mr Stevens, Mr Cartwright and Professor Sainsbury,” Mr Moore said.
